Take a thousand naked pictures

Those who have gotten to know me a bit will probably know that Schitt’s Creek is my all time favourite show. During one episode Moira – an woman in her 60’s was asking a younger woman (Stevie) how to find her nudes on the internet (that she had taken on film years before the internet existed, so are obviously not on the internet). During the conversation Moira imparts this wisdom on Stevie “Take a thousand naked pictures of yourself now. You may currently think, “Oh, I’m too spooky”. Or, “Nobody wants to see these tiny boobies.” But, believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say, “Dear God, I was a beautiful thing”.

This quote, though very funny, also rings very true. Think about a time when you were younger, a time when you felt insecure about yourself, and maybe wished something about yourself was different. Now look back at photos of yourself from that time… I bet you feel a lot differently now. I would even go so far as to say that I bet you wish you had appreciated and loved yourself a bit more during that time.

The moral of this story, is that, even though you may not be at the top of your self love game yet, even if you still think your body is 10 pounds away from being perfect, even if you wish your boobs were a little bit bigger, or your thighs were a little bit smaller (or whatever your complaint is -(we all have one or two)), in a few years you will love this current version of yourself more, wish you had been kinder to it, and maybe even wish you had photographed it in all it’s beautiful glory.
